Be Fruitful & Have Dominion

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.Genesis 1:28 (KJV)

Dominion: To take responsibility, to care, to lead, to cultivate and develop

Dominate: To demand influence, to exercise control over and be in superior position

The Fall of Man / Sin of Man = Loss of Dominion by Man.

By disobeying God and yielding to temptation, man committed high treason.

By disobeying God, this act of sin resulted in the loss of their authority and dominion, which was then seized by Satan.

Satan, through Adam’s disobedience, gained control over the earth and became the “god of this world”.

Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT)

Work – think of a plow; to tend to others we’re responsible for; sweat/toil.

Keep – to guard, to watch, to protect… think of a sword; attitude to protect and defend.

Flesh – A man must be able to control his pride, his temper, his drinking, and his flesh. A man cannot be a leader until he learns to take dominion over himself, over his sinful, fleshly desires.

Church – you cannot say you love Christ if you do not love his bride. You cannot say you’re serving Christ if you are not active part of His body. If you are not sacrificially attending, serving, and supporting a local church, you cannot become the man God wants you to be.

Family – Serving your wife, serving your children, and serving the entire household. The man must be the hardest worker in the home. Give yourself sacrificially every day for the good of your family. It’s not just about working hard and providing. It’s about doing the hard work of loving and leading and helping the home while pointing them to Christ at every step.

  2. The core to becoming a godly man is “working and keeping”. How will you cultivate (work) your walk w/ Christ and protect (keep) your walk w/ Christ?
  3. FOUR domains were addressed in which a godly man must take dominion: FLESH, CHURCH, HOME, WORKPLACE. Our flesh is the most difficult to have dominion which effects the other three. How and why have you’ve seen the flesh disrupts the other three important areas in your life?
